87-skookum-inlet-0111Our office has a listing that is on Skookum Inlet.  It is one of our broker’s listings, and he’d really like us to sell it!  So, I’m going to focus on it today.  I don’t usually post much about our listings, because I figure that is not why people come to read a blog.  You want news, opinions and ideas.  If you want to see listings you can click on any of our office web sites, especially our broker’s site with its great search options.  However, in this case, this property has reached just the right price for salt waterfront in our area, and I think it is worth highlighting.

What I like best about the property isn’t even the gorgeous waterfront.  (0ver 300 feet of it) What I like is that this property is close to highway 101, which is the highway that takes commuters to Olympia, Tacoma or beyond.  This highway also takes you to either one of our two casinos, or up toward Port Townsend and that area.  In other words, you can live on this great waterfront property, and have easy access to wherever else you want to go.  Of course, this means you would also be close to shopping, restaurants and all of the conveniences that people want close by.

Another fun feature of this property is that you would drive right by the winery on your way home, so you could stop and pick up a little something.  It is the Walter Dacon Winery.  You can take your guests for a wine tasting event without any trouble at all.  See pictures here.

To get home from the winery you drive down a lane to the property, which is 4.39 acres of privacy and seclusion.  The sellers have very much enjoyed living here.  When I asked them what they especially liked they said it was all the wildlife they got to watch. They see eagles perched high in the trees, and fishing the waters; herons wading just off shore, more water fowl and other birds, deer, and the occasional other wild creature. 87-skookum-inlet-046

The owners have carefully landscaped their property, so it is very enjoyable with gardens, lawn and trees.  They have an attached garage, but they also have a huge detached garage/shop/storage building that anyone would love to have.  Alongside this detached building is another large covered area that they used to park their RV and big boats.  If you visit the URL for the property you will find lots of pictures.

The house itself is 2909 sq ft large.  I love the gourmet kitchen, and the floor to ceiling view windows in the living area.  The master bedroom not only has the 5-piece master bathroom, but it also has a sauna!  When you go upstairs you will find decks off the bedrooms, so you can sit up there and enjoy the views.  The house is built to take advantage of the waterfront views.

You can buy this home for $649,000.  The owners, because of the slowness of the market, have dropped the price.  They will also consider a lease/option.

Mason County has miles and miles of salt waterfront property.  Hood Canal snakes in and out of the county, and there are all these inlets from Puget Sound.  The tidelands are abundant in shell fish.  Lots of people even rent out their tidelands to some of the big shell fish growers so they bring in a bit of an income from their property.  Our area is also well known, especially up in the Potlatch/Hoodsport area, by scuba divers.  We also have several lakes, and you can get a home on either a full watersports lake, or one of our smaller, non-power boat lakes.  Most of the lakes have very good fishing.

The home on Skookum Inlet could be either a full time residence, or someone from Florida or Arizona, or one of those states that get unbearably hot and humid in the summer, may want to buy this for their summer escape.  Our salt waterfront in Mason County is absolutely beautiful, and our prices are so very much more affordable than salt waterfront up in Pierce, King, Thurston or some of the other salt waterfront Counties.  And this particular property is an easy gateway to highway 101, and beyond to Interstate 5.  I can get to West Olympia in about 20 minutes, to Tacoma in about 45 minutes, and to Seattle in under two hours, depending on time of day, and traffic.

Western Washington has a temperate climate.  We have seasons, but they are not as radical as other states.  I will let you in on a secret, but you must promise not to tell!  it doesn’t rain nearly as much as we  like to pretend it does.  There is an unspoken agreement with most residents here to tell all out-of-staters that it rains all the time.  We don’t want everyone to move here.  Just a few select and discerning people who can appreciate the natural resources that we enjoy here.  So, remember, if you are talking about Western Washington, tell everyone that it just rains all the time here!  Especially if you plan to move here — you will soon understand why we don’t want just everyone to move here.  Our natural resources of water, trees, mountains are just too precious to spoil with an overpopulation.

Hey… it’s raining today!  Lots of rain!  Rain, rain, rain…. good thing we have a roof that closes at Safeco Field.
