The folks (real estate agents) from Belfair had several open houses today all along highway 106, along Hood Canal. Several of the agents from our office took a caravan out to tour the houses, and I must say that the food the agents served at their open houses was wonderful! They outdid themselves. We started at the “wrong” end of the highway, since we started from highway 101, so we started our moving feast with dessert. Great way to start our tour. We ended with calm chowder, and had a salmon dinner in the middle. Needless to say there were a lot of agents viewing these homes today.
The homes along highway 106 are often very unique properties. You have the homes on the water side of the street, and the view homes on the other side of the street, and up into the hills. We drove by the Alderbrook Inn/Resort on our way. Alderbrook is a popular get-a-way place for many in NW Washington. There are also more permanent residences in the area each year, especially around the Alderbrook golf course.
There are some homes that are “grandfathered in” and are built right out into the Canal. You can’t do that any more, so these homes are now rare. Other homes are built just along the water’s edge, and usually have these long docks that go out into the Canal. We saw one waterfront home today that had this really great back yard patio, with an outdoor fireplace. The agent fed us a salmon lunch. Yum! You could look over the bulkhead down to the oyster beds below, and imagine some pretty good meals picked up off the beach. They had a long dock going out into the water. Just climb into your boat, and head out to the Sound.
Mason County has miles and miles of salt waterfront. The long strip along highway 106 is popular, and there is this great saltwater park midway, called Twanoh State Park. People will come from miles around to enjoy this park.
The rest of the homes that we saw were view homes, up on the hillside. Two of the homes also have membership in the Twanoh Falls community beach. This is a gated, private community beach, not that far from the State Park. The views are incredible, not only because of the Hood Canal, but also because of the Olympic mountains. People truly enjoy the beauty of our region.
