It looks like our former governor, Gary Locke, could be the next Secretary of Commerce.  I liked Gary as our governor, and I think all of us enjoyed watching his young family grow as he served his two terms with us.  Here is an article on one of our local TV station web sites.  So, of course, I think he is a great choice for Commerce Secretary.  Also, I don’t think they are going to find anything to disqualify him in the vetting process.

Sometimes I have to tell people I’m from the “other” Washington, especially when talking with people in another country on the phone.  You know, when you have to call for tech support, and end up talking with people who have only a vague idea of all the states of the Union.  If I just say I’m from Washington, the people on the other end of the phone automatically assume I must mean Washington DC.  I’ve been to Washington DC, and it is a nice place to visit, but I’d much rather live right here, especially in Northwestern Washington, even with our rainy days.

We are also sending Ron Sims to DC.  President Obama has nominated him as the second-in-command at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  We know him as the King County executive.  Ron Sims is the state’s most prominent black politician.  Both Gary and Ron reflect the growing diversity of our state.  You can read more about Norm’s nomination here.
